The Cooks Classic is a premiere athletics event held at Whanganui's renowned Cooks Gardens.
Cooks Classic consists of two days of athletics competitions. The event is recognised by World Athletics, through the Oceania Athletic Federation, as a World Challenge Series event.
The best of New Zealand’s top athletes compete in the: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, one mile, 3,000m, 400m hurdles, shot put, hammer, triple jump, javelin and long jump.
The meeting features the NZ One Mile Championship for senior men & women and the men’s & women’s U20 3,000m NZ Championships.
The second day of the Cooks Classic features the Snell Mile Challenge. This offers entrants the chance to run or walk a mile at the same venue where Sir Peter Snell set his One Mile World Record.
