Lanterns on the Awa

Celebrate our diverse cultural wealth with entertainment and delicious kai on a night of exciting cultural entertainment and magical family time.

This community event celebrates Whanganui’s support of its Chinese community and culture. The event includes a stage for performers – traditional dance, music, martial arts, traditional Chinese hanging lanterns and the culturally significant gesture of releasing wax-coated floating lanterns (candles) onto Whanganui River. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available to purchase.

 

  • Saturday, 1 October 2022
  • 5pm – 10pm
  • Taupō Quay, beside the Tram Shed and Whanganui River Markets area
  • (If raining, the event will be held at the War Memorial Centre)
