Celebrate our heritage and connect with our rich history and enjoy tours, seminars, exhibitions and cultural events.
Join us for Whanganui Heritage Month to celebrate our region’s rich heritage going back to the mid 1800s with a special transport focus. A few exciting highlights include an opening weekend Heritage Market and heritage boat regatta on the Whanganui River, and a full weekend of events over Labour Weekend, including a heritage transport parade and park-up and Heritage Antique Fairs. With over 35 events throughout October, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Whanganui has one of New Zealand’s highest concentrations of intact heritage buildings, and they give our city a unique character. Several heritage riverboats and a number of Māori sites of significance including St Paul’s Memorial Church, Putiki, and marae along the Whanganui River Rd to Jerusalem create an authentic experience of yesteryear.
