Celebrate our heritage and connect with our rich history and enjoy tours, seminars, exhibitions and cultural events.
Join us for Whanganui Heritage Month to celebrate our region’s rich heritage going back to the mid 1800s with a special transport focus. A few exciting highlights include an opening weekend Heritage Market by Whanganui River and a full weekend of events mid-month, including a heritage transport parade and park-up. With over 35 events throughout September, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Held for the first time in 2019, Whanganui Heritage Month is a celebration of Whanganui’s built heritage. Whanganui has one of New Zealand’s highest concentrations of intact heritage buildings, and they give our city a unique character. There are also a number of Māori sites of significance including St Paul’s Memorial Church, Putiki, and marae along the Whanganui River Rd to Jerusalem.
