Whanganui & Partners has invited Tess Dwyer, an experienced Airbnb operator and owner of home-staging business Upstaged, to lead the workshop. The workshop will help participants understand the process of setting up a short-term accommodation home or room, the advantages and challenges of doing so, and how to avoid common mistakes.

Tess manages the sought-after Johnson & Co building, on the corner of Taupō Quay and Victoria Ave, along with two other popular local properties.

She will be joined by another two Airbnb hosts at the June 13 workshop, one who provides guests with a room within their home and the other who offers a full house on the platform.

Paul Chaplow, who is Strategic Lead for Visitor Industries at Whanganui & Partners, said the search for Whanganui accommodation was always challenging at peak times and the region was in need of more options.

“Increasing Whanganui’s peer-to-peer accommodation offerings is a key factor in supporting the region’s visitor industries and large events, particularly during our busy summer events period,” Chaplow said. “Whanganui’s visitor growth is limited only by the number of rooms we have available.”

He said the workshop would provide information for anyone interested in establishing a holiday property or bed and breakfast offering, and for those already running a bookable space. “Airbnb is a well recognised brand but the workshop is really for anyone interested in offering their property or rooms on any platform.”

Chaplow said modern homes, architecturally interesting homes, and homes of a good quality were popular listings on holiday home and bed and breakfast platforms.

The free workshop will run from 6pm-7.30pm on June 13, at the Davis Lecture Theatre in Whanganui Regional Museum. Registrations are essential – save your spot
