Our aim is to build Whanganui as a sustainable food and fibre powerhouse.

We work towards boosting the prosperity of Whanganui’s primary sector with enablers for food and fibre, technology, agri-tourism, and Māori agribusiness.

We’re a leader in advancing primary industries. Elevating Whanganui’s strength and resilience for our region’s agribusiness and rural sector is a priority for us. We seek to facilitate growth, build national influence, and create new pathways for diversification and sustainability.

Primary industries accounted for the top five international export ‘industries’ for Whanganui in 2022. Dairy product manufacturing was 41% of the share compared to 27% nationally, with meat manufacturing at 24% compared to 14% nationally. Forest and logging, and horticulture and fruit growing are also significant contributors to exports for Whanganui.
